Increased communication can also help us to learn more about the situation they face in remote villages. Vashkar Bhattacharjee (right), Federation of DPOs Sitakund, is pictured with Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury (center), Member of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Farah Kabir (left), Country Director of ActionAid Bangladesh. Vashkar is hosting a talk show on the UNCRPD on the Bangladesh community radio station, Sagor Giri.

Through the use of community radio, the Federation of DPOs Sitakund is actively reaching out to persons with disabilities in marginalized and vulnerable communities in Bangladesh. The Federation consists of over 40 self-help groups and 700 members who are persons with disabilities or parents of persons with disabilities, as well as organizations that represent women with disabilities and Indigenous persons with disabilities. With the increased awareness of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the Federation hopes that persons with disabilities will be better equipped to advocate to their local elected officials, community members, and elites with the goal of gaining respect and recognition for their rights.
